Chief Mapungwana Dies After Collapsing at Independence Day Event

 Chief Mapungwana, born Aneas Mapungwana, has died after collapsing during national Independence Day celebrations in Maphisa, Matabeleland South, on Saturday.

Chief Mapungwana, who also served as a Senator, was rushed to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) and admitted for treatment.

 He died at about 2am today despite efforts by medical staff.

Acting Manicaland Provincial Director for Local Government Services, John Misi, confirmed the death.

Chief Mapungwana was known for his dual role as a traditional leader and legislator. 

His death has drawn reactions from both traditional and political circles.

The cause of his collapse has not been made public.

Family members and officials are expected to announce burial arrangements in due course.
